Flores is a small island city located in Peten, northern Guatemala, on Lake Peten Itza. The city is very interesting, with tightly packed red-roofed buildings, cobblestone streets, quality restaurants, and proximity to the ancient Maya ruined cities of Tikal and Yaxha. Flores has a slow pace and relaxed atmosphere. Another positive factor of studying Spanish in Flores is that the city is regarded as probably the safest in the northern Peten department of Guatemala.
