Antigua is the first choice of many language travelers due to its peaceful atmosphere, beautiful Spanish colonial architecture, safety, and proximity to the largest selection of schools in Guatemala. Antigua is located in the Guatemala highlands and surrounded by mountains as well as three extinct volcanoes. Known for its wonderful variety of bars and restaurants and quality of Spanish instruction, Antigua is the favorite of many Spanish students. Antigua’s only downfall is the high number of visitors from non-Spanish speaking countries, which can make it harder for students to fully immerse themselves in the Spanish language while traveling about town.
